Application Guidelines for Overseas Trained Doctors (OTDs)
The basic criteria for applying to become an AFOEM trainee for all applicants, including Overseas Trained Doctors (OTDs) are as follows:
You must:
- Be a registered Medical Practitioner in Australia or New Zealand
- Have completed at least three years of postgraduate general clinical experience
- Be working in an Occupational Medicine position for at least 10 hours a week
- Agree to comply with Faculty training requirements and rules
The training program takes between 4 and 10 years to complete.
In order to comply with the first entry criteria for the training program, Overseas Trained Doctors (OTDs) are first advised to contact the Australian Medical Council regarding specialist registration. Their contact details are:

Once the AMC has endorsed the applicant's qualifications and specified that they are eligible for specialist registration, the OTD may apply to join the training program following the 'How to Apply' guidelines.
