Awards & Prizes
The Australasian Faculty of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) has various prizes which are awarded each year.
Australasian Faculty of Occupational & Environmental Medicine Prize
This prize is offered for excellence in occupational medicine eg the best essay written additional to curriculum requirements, or the best research project or assignment required, either obligatory or optionally, in the assessment of courses in occupational or environmental health.
Entry is open to medical students in whichever year or years in the undergraduate curriculum are deemed appropriate by the Dean of the Faculty, depending on the medical curriculum concerned. The prize is also open to interns in their first year of graduation if necessary, to allow them to present material dealt with in the final year.

Deane Southgate Award
The Deane Southgate Award is given to the trainee who achieves the highest aggregate exam marks in one year. A plaque is presented to the winner at the Annual ASM.
Outstanding Service Award
AFOEM recognizes its Presidents and past-Presidents by portraits and (currently being developed) a Perpetual Presidential Medal and Presidential Service Medal.
The RACP also recognizes outstanding service to the College through presentation of a College Medal to Fellows that have not attained the office of President and have provided outstanding service to the College. AFOEM Fellows are eligible to nominate for the College Medal.
AFOEM Fellows who have provided outstanding service to the Faculty are also formally recognized through a “Certificate of Service”. Fellows who have provided outstanding service to the Faculty over many years may be nominated.

Ramazzini Prize
The Ramazzini Prize is presented annually to the trainee who presents the best scientific paper at the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM). It is a requirement that a trainee must present a paper for the Ramazzini prize at the ASM at least once during their training period to attain Fellowship. This enables trainees to demonstrate their research methods and communication competencies. The prize is currently $500.
